Capo Carbonara and the islands of Serpentara and Cavoli form a marine protected area at the south-east tip of Sardinia. The coastal path links headlands of granite and juniper above sea so clear the sandy bottom is visible in 15 m of water. Ospreys nest on Serpentara; the Mediterranean monk seal is occasionally sighted.
