Hadrian recreated the wonders of the empire across 120 hectares near Tivoli: the Canopus pool and its colonnade, the island villa of the Teatro Marittimo, baths, libraries and terraces, now half-ruined among cypress and olive. Long gravel paths link the set pieces.
