Vie Cave di Sovana

These sunken roads were carved by the Etruscans, likely for ceremonial or defensive routes between necropolises, and the tufa walls now drip with ferns and moss in the permanent shade. Tomb facades and niches are still visible cut into the rock along the way. The network connects Sovana to nearby Etruscan burial sites scattered through the Maremma tufa country.
