The Rifugio Marinelli-Bombardieri (2,813 m) in the Valmalenco above Lanzada is the main base for the Italian Bernina group — the highest non-volcanic mountains between the Mont Blanc and the Dolomites. The approach through the Scerscen glacier valley passes beneath the Bernina east face. Chamois and ibex on the rocky ridges. Stunning glacial architecture.
