Vallone Madonna degli Angeli
Sicily
This steep-sided ravine cuts into the Madonie's northern flank above the village of Isnello, its trail passing beneath the cliffside Santuario della Madonna dell'Alto and several karst springs that feed the valley below. Holm oak and manna ash cling to the gorge walls, the latter historically tapped for the sugary sap once processed into Sicily's traditional manna sweetener. It's a quieter alternative to the Madonie's higher, more exposed summit trails.
