Val Cannobina
Lombardy
The Val Cannobina cuts north from Cannobio on Lake Maggiore into a network of stone-bridge gorges and terraced hillsides once covered in mulberry for silk worms. The valley is almost completely depopulated now; old village roads and fontanili (spring water fountains) are the main evidence of the silk economy that once sustained it.
