Valle delle Ferriere
Campania
The near-constant humidity in this narrow valley, fed by multiple waterfalls, has allowed a rare fern relic from prehistoric times to survive here, one of very few sites in Europe where it grows wild. Ruined paper mills, which used the valley's water power for centuries, line the path as it climbs from Amalfi's edge into cooler, greener terrain.
