Valle dell'Amendolea, Aspromonte
Calabria
The Amendolea river valley cuts through the heart of Aspromonte from the Ionian coast to the 1,950 m summit. The abandoned village of Roghudi Vecchio hangs above the gorge — evacuated in 1971 after floods. The valley forest below the ruins is the most intact in Aspromonte: ancient Calabrian black pine, Portugal oak and Sicilian fir. The valley bottom runs clear over white granite boulders — no other walkers.
