The Val Rosandra is a wild karst gorge ten minutes from central Trieste, where the Rosandra stream cuts through 200 m limestone walls. A Roman aqueduct section survives on the cliff face. The gorge is famous for its rock climbing and for an extraordinary concentration of Ophrys orchids (bee, fly, mirror) in April and May.
