Val Pennavaire, Alpi Marittime
Liguria
The Val Pennavaire above Albenga is one of the least-visited inland valleys in Liguria — a medieval landscape of stone-built villages, truffle oak groves and terraced olive cultivation unchanged since the 15th century. Wolves returned to this valley in 2009. In October the truffle season begins; local guides offer truffle hunts with trained Lagotto Romagnolo dogs in the valley woodland.
