Val Natisone — Benečija
Friuli-Venezia Giulia
The Val Natisone (Benečija in Slovenian) harbours a Slavic-speaking community of 'Venetian Slovenians' who have lived in these hills since the 14th century. The valley has a completely different cultural atmosphere to the Italian side — old stone mills, beehive box art (poslikane panjske končnice) and bilingual villages on the Slovenian border.
