Val Dogna

This narrow, glacially carved valley runs up toward Jôf di Montasio, whose 2754-metre summit is the highest point of the Italian Julian Alps and was fought over in WWI, with old military mule tracks still traceable on the flanks. Chamois are common on the steep grassy slopes, and the valley floor keeps a cool, damp microclimate even in high summer.
