Val di Rhêmes
Aosta Valley
Val di Rhêmes retains a wilder, less-visited feel than the main Gran Paradiso valleys, its wide glacial floor carpeted with wildflowers and grazed by traditional herds through summer. The trail up toward the Nomenon waterfall and beyond passes stone-roofed hamlets that have changed little in generations. Bearded vultures, reintroduced to the wider Alps over recent decades, have occasionally been spotted riding the thermals above the valley's granite walls.
