Deep in the Dolomiti Friulane, this valley is flanked by the massive walls of the Spalti di Toro and Cima dei Preti, peaks that see a fraction of the foot traffic of their better-known Dolomite cousins further west. Wolves have returned to the surrounding forests in recent years, part of a broader recolonisation of the eastern Alps, alongside long-established chamois and golden eagle populations.
