Riserva Valle del Fiume Argentino
Calabria
This reserve protects one of the least disturbed river valleys in the Pollino massif, where the Argentino river cuts through steep, forested slopes hosting an unusually rich mix of species, from Mediterranean holm oak lower down to beech and fir higher up. The valley is known among botanists for rare orchids and ferns found in few other parts of Calabria. Otters have historically been recorded along the clearer upper reaches.
