This coastal watchtower dates to the 16th century, built as part of a chain of defenses against Barbary pirate raids along the Tyrrhenian coast. It sits at the base of the Circeo promontory, whose limestone cliffs funnel migrating raptors, including honey buzzards and marsh harriers, past in visible numbers each autumn. The trail up offers sweeping views over the lagoon system below and out across the open sea.
