Torre Guaceto
Puglia
This marine and coastal reserve has recovered strongly since protection began in the early 1990s, its dune systems and Mediterranean scrub now home to nesting sea turtles on the beach and abundant birdlife inland. The 16th-century watchtower that gives the reserve its name still stands guard over the shoreline.
