Torre dell'Orso near Melendugno in the Salento has the finest natural beach on the Adriatic coast of Puglia — white sand, crystal Adriatic water and two offshore sea stacks called 'Le Due Sorelle' (The Two Sisters). The beach is framed by Mediterranean scrub (maquis). Loggerhead turtle nesting occurs in the dunes. Dogs welcome before June and after September. The Torre is a 16th-century coastal watchtower.
