Hidden inside a huge sinkhole formed when the roof of an underground cavern collapsed, this Nuragic settlement's round stone huts sit concealed from view until hikers are almost on top of them, a natural hideout likely used as a refuge during historical incursions. The approach winds through dense Supramonte holm oak forest and past dramatic karst rock formations. Light filtering through the collapsed sinkhole roof gives the site an eerie, cathedral-like quality at midday.
