Su Nuraxi di Barumini — Giara Walk
Sardinia
The Giara di Gesturi is a volcanic basalt plateau above the Barumini plains — the world habitat of the Giara wild horse (cavallino della Giara), a pony-sized feral horse that has lived here since at least the Nuragic age. Su Nuraxi di Barumini (1500 BC) below the plateau is the finest Nuragic complex in Sardinia and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The plateau has temporary pools (paulis) with rare fairy shrimps.
