Stromboli Summit, Isole Eolie

Sicily

Stromboli (924 m) has been in continuous eruption for 2,000 years — the Lighthouse of the Mediterranean. The night summit walk (guides compulsory above 400 m) reaches the crater terrace where the Sciara del Fuoco lava channel drops 2 km to the sea. Eruptions occur every 15–20 minutes from the three active vents. The glow of lava and incandescent bombs in the dark is unforgettable.
