Stagnone di Marsala & Mozia

Sicily

The Stagnone is Sicily's largest lagoon, so shallow you can wade the ancient submerged causeway to the island of Mozia (San Pantaleo) — a Phoenician trading city with walls, a tophet and the marble "Youth of Mozia". Embankment paths thread the working salt pans, best at sunset when the water turns pink.
