Stagno di Molentargius, Cagliari
Sardinia
The Stagno di Molentargius is a coastal lagoon within Cagliari's urban area — one of the closest major wildlife sites to an Italian city centre. Up to 5,000 greater flamingo breed here. The lagoon is the traditional source of Cagliari's salt; the abandoned salt pans are now the flamingo's main breeding ground. Little tern, black-winged stilt and kentish plover also breed. Dogs allowed on the perimeter path.
