Stagno di Cabras, Sinis
Sardinia
The Stagno di Cabras is the largest lagoon in Sardinia (22 km²) and one of the most important wetlands in the Mediterranean — grey mullet farmed here since Nuragic times. Flamingo flocks reach 10,000 birds in winter. The Nuragic and Phoenician port of Tharros on the peninsula closes the lagoon to the west — 3,000 years of continuous use. Spoonbill, glossy ibis and pratincole breed here.
