Spiaggia di San Lorenzo

Sicily

This is the southernmost and generally quieter beach within the Riserva Naturale di Vendicari, backed by low dunes and marram grass rather than the busier central sections near the old tonnara. Flamingos and other wading birds frequent the adjacent salt marshes, especially in the cooler months. Loggerhead turtles nest on parts of this beach in some summers, prompting temporary roped-off protection zones.
