Wedged beneath cliffs between Corniglia and Vernazza, Guvano was for decades accessible only through a disused railway tunnel and gained a reputation as an informal, clothing-optional escape from the crowds of the main Cinque Terre villages. The tunnel access has been unreliable in recent years, leaving a steep cliffside trail as the more consistent route down. Its isolation, with no facilities and cliffs rising directly behind, keeps visitor numbers low even in high season.
