Spiaggia di Piscinas, Sardinia

Sardinia

Piscinas on the south-west Sardinian coast is the largest dune system in Europe — sand dunes up to 60 m high, sculpted by the maestrale (north-west wind) into a Saharan landscape. The beach is backed entirely by dunes — no development. The only building is a historic Art Nouveau hotel converted from a mine manager's house. The Ingurtosu silver mines are above. Sea turtles nest here.
