The Alta Via dei Monti Liguri follows the Ligurian Apennine watershed for 440 km from Ventimiglia to La Spezia. The southern section above Loano and Finale Ligure is the most dramatic — the ridge at 1,400 m gives simultaneous views of the Mediterranean (south) and the Po plain / Alps (north). The trail was used by salt merchants for centuries.
