Sentiero del Pellegrino
Liguria
Long before the coastal 'blue trail' existed, pilgrims climbed this inland route from Monterosso to the Santuario di Nostra Signora di Soviore, reputedly the oldest Marian sanctuary in Liguria, with roots traced to the 8th century. The path runs through chestnut and pine forest well above the crowded coastal villages, with occasional breaks in the canopy revealing the sea far below. It stays remarkably quiet even during the Cinque Terre's busiest summer weeks.
