Veneto
The Strada delle 52 Gallerie on the Pasubio massif was built in 1917–1918 by Italian military engineers — 52 tunnels bored through the rock to allow supply of the Dente Austriaco position without exposure to Austrian fire. The 6 km road gains 900 m through the tunnels and passes Austrian and Italian artillery positions. The summit (2,235 m) has WWI fortifications and panoramic views over the Vicenza plain.
