Sentiero dei Briganti, Appennino Lucano

The Sentiero dei Briganti traverses the Appennino Lucano National Park through ancient transhumance paths used for centuries by shepherds (and later by post-unification brigands resisting the Piedmontese state). The route passes through beech and oak forest with wolf and Apennine hare. The brigands who used these paths in the 1860s–70s are a deep part of Lucanian identity.
