Scilla & Chianalea
Calabria
Scilla is the Scylla of Homer's Odyssey — the six-headed monster on the rock. Today a castle sits on the promontory above the swordfish-fishing village of Chianalea, whose houses are built directly over the sea. Sicily is 3 km across the strait; you watch the current churn between the two shores. One of Italy's most dramatic small towns.
