Sasso Simone e Simoncello
Marche
Sasso Simone (1,204 m) and Simoncello (1,221 m) are twin flat-topped sandstone plateaux that rise abruptly from the gentle Montefeltro hills. Their distinctive profiles appear in the background of numerous Piero della Francesca paintings. The reserve below them protects a forest of mixed oak and hornbeam with a resident pack of wolves and Italian wolves confirmed breeding since 2008.
