Sasso Malascarpa

Lombardy

This small but rugged reserve sits on the watershed ridge of the Triangolo Lariano, the wedge of mountains between Como's two branches, and is known locally for its cliffs and rare orchid meadows. The trail crosses open rock slabs with vertiginous views down to the town of Canzo and across to the Grigne. Peregrine falcons nest on the crags, and the reserve protects one of the area's last strongholds of wild orchids.
