Santuario di San Michele, Monte Sant'Angelo

From the 5th century, pilgrims on the "Via Sacra Langobardorum" from Rome to the Holy Land climbed to this natural grotto where Michael is said to have appeared. The whitewashed town around it, with its Rione Junno cottages and Norman castle, looks over the Gulf of Manfredonia.
