Santuario di Montevergine, Partenio

Montevergine, founded by St William of Vercelli in 1124, keeps a black-Madonna basilica famous for the "Juta dei femminielli" pilgrimage. The stone Scalinata Santa climbs to it from Mercogliano through beech forest, and ridge paths continue along the Partenio to Monte Vallatrone with a view over the Avellino basin.
