Calanchi di Sant'Angelo Limosano
Molise
The calanchi near Sant'Angelo Limosano in the central Molise are clay badlands eroded into an extraordinary lunar landscape — gullies, pinnacles and ravines in grey-blue clay. The abandoned village of Sant'Angelo above is half-ghost town, half inhabited. This badland landscape is almost entirely unknown outside the region. Rollers and bee-eaters have been seen on the clay ridges.
