San Leo – Passeggiata della Rocca
Emilia-Romagna
San Leo's fortress sits atop a nearly unclimbable limestone outcrop in the Marecchia valley, a natural stronghold that Dante is said to have described and that later held the notorious occultist Cagliostro as a prisoner in its cells. The path circling the base of the rock gives constantly shifting views of the sheer walls above and the rolling Montefeltro hills beyond.
