The Stretta di Salorno (Salurner Klause) is the narrowest gorge in the Alps — 25 m between the cliffs — and historically the boundary between the German-speaking world and Latin Italy. The Castel Salorno above marks the divide. For centuries no German speaker went south of this gorge. Peregrine nests on the cliff. The Adige/Etsch river fills the gorge floor. Dogs on leash.
