Saepinum — Sepino Archaeological Park
Molise
Saepinum near Sepino is arguably the best-preserved Roman municipium in Italy — a complete Roman town with forum, basilica, amphitheatre, temples and intact defensive walls, all in open Molise countryside with no roof covering and almost no visitors. Founded in the 3rd century BC, it was abandoned in the early medieval period. Sheep still graze inside the walls.
