The Sacro Monte di Orta is one of nine Piedmontese Sacri Monti on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The 20 chapels along the hillside path contain life-size terracotta scenes from St Francis of Assisi's life — a Renaissance open-air museum. The view over Lago d'Orta and the Isola di San Giulio from the path is one of the finest lake views in Italy. Dogs welcome on leash.
