Rocche del Crasto

Sicily

This jagged limestone crest is the highest rock formation in the Nebrodi range, its sheer faces chosen as the release site for a griffon vulture reintroduction programme that has slowly re-established a breeding colony after the species vanished from Sicily last century. The trail climbs through oak and beech woodland before opening onto bare rock with views toward both the Tyrrhenian coast and Etna. Sightings of the vultures gliding along the ridge are increasingly reliable in recent years.
