Angera's Rocca has guarded the narrows at the southern end of Lake Maggiore since medieval times, its towers and courtyards now open as a museum with terraced gardens looking straight across the water to Arona and the Rocca Borromea on the opposite shore. The approach from the lakefront town is short but climbs steadily.
