Rocca del Leone & lakefront, Castiglione del Lago
Umbria
The Rocca del Leone, laid out by a monk-architect for Frederick II, juts into the lake with five towers and a keep; a covered rampart passage joins it to the Palazzo della Corgna. From the walls the whole Trasimeno and its islands spread out, and a flat path drops to the reedy shore and a small beach.
