Rocca d'Anfo, Lago d'Idro

Begun by Venice in the 15th century and hugely expanded under Napoleon and the Kingdom of Italy, the Rocca d'Anfo is one of the largest fortified complexes in the country, its batteries, tunnels and barracks stacked up a steep slope for 200 m of height. Guided walks climb through it to gun terraces looking the length of Lake Idro.
