This is the longest limestone massif on the island, its sheer northern face dropping straight into the Ficuzza forest below. The summit ridge offers unusually wide views for Sicily, taking in the Palermo conca d'oro, the Sicani mountains and, on the clearest days, distant Etna. Golden eagles and peregrine falcons nest on the crags, and the mountain remains one of the last regular breeding sites for both species on the island.
