Risorgive del Timavo

Friuli-Venezia Giulia

The Timavo sinks into a cave in Slovenia's Karst and travels underground for over 30 kilometres before gushing back to the surface here at San Giovanni al Timavo, a resurgence known and revered since antiquity, with a Roman-era temple to the river god once standing nearby. The site now includes a small church and a millpond fed directly by the reborn river.
