Riserva Naturale Ripa Bianca
Marche
Just outside Jesi, disused gravel pits along the Esino river have been left to flood and regrow, creating a mosaic of ponds and reedbeds that now draws herons, kingfishers and migrating waders. Easy flat paths and hides make it an accessible family outing rather than a wilderness trek. It's a good example of industrial land reverting to genuinely rich habitat within a couple of decades.
