The Val d'Alba above Tolmezzo in the Carnia is a traditional Alpine hay meadow valley with corncrake (Crex crex) — a declining species easy to hear here. Brown bear has been camera-trapped. Old Friulian farmhouses with the distinctive 'fogolâr' (central hearth) architecture. Gentians and orchids in the meadows. Black grouse at dawn. Dogs off-leash in the valley.
