The Riserva Naturale di Serranella near Lanciano protects a reservoir on the Sangro river with exceptional birdlife — little bittern, night heron and squacco heron breed in the reedbeds. European roller nests in the banks. Glossy ibis has bred since 2021 (rare in Abruzzo). Osprey and marsh harrier in migration. One of the best birdwatching sites in southern Italy. Dogs on leash.
